Favorite Shirt? What is it?

Thread Starter
I threw away a favorite shirt a while ago and now I miss it. It was a very heavy white Oxford cloth button down that I had purchased around 1998 from Ben Silver (I think they were made for them by Gitman at the time) It had been washed and worn a million times. It was frayed and worn around the collar and cuffs.

There was just something special about a well worn OCBD.

Do you have a favorite shirt?

My favorite shirt ever was a salmon pink YSL shirt in a poplin with a weird sort of brushed finish that I haven't been able to find in any bespoke shirting books. I bought it as a college freshman at a blowout end-of-season sale at Bergdorf Goodman. It was something like $900 reduced to $100. I wore it all the time until one day, I took it off without unbuttoning the front (as I frequently do at the end of a night when I'm feeling lazy) and it ripped as I was pulling it over my head.

I have an old white french cuff charvet that fits me flawlessly. Ive worn it ragged. Frayed cuffs, frayed collar, and the fabric is wearing really thin...with a faint hole worn through as well. Actually, I wore it with my navy zegna suit and a nice tie. it looked quite out of place with all the frays, but damn i love that shirt. I doubt if ill ever throw it out.

A pink bespoke shirt with barrel cuffs, point collar, and double buttons at the collar (bought way before they were in because I have a long neck). It was from the first batch of bespoke shirts I ever bought about ten years ago.

Collar is frayed, cuffs are frayed. I wear it on weekends at the playground with my kids or when I'm at the family's summer house.

Nothing says sprezz like wearing a bespoke shirt while you're fishing.

I have three all time favourite shirts:

1. A MTM shirt, white with green stripe and horn buttons. Cost me a fortune but looks absolutely excellent - particularly with a green sweater vest. I have several solid colored bespoke shirts that are like runner up to this one - I just love stripe shirts though.

2. A YSL shirt from 2008 that was light blue with a faded blue check design. Cost me something like $150 after being marked down from a crazy $495. This is one of the few designer shirts I own that actually turned out to be worth the money.

3. A Turnbull and Asser shirt in blue with white windowpane. I love that shirt and will get another like it soon.

My pink Charvet MTM. Fond memories, perfect fit, got it to pass on to my daughter one day. Worn precisely twice. Looked at and touched every day

Love my Borrelli and Barba shirts.....but gotta say the non iron blue button down collar Brooks Brothers is my favourite. Nice thickness to it, easy to maintain (no ironing) and the crease never fades! It was cheap too!

My favorite shirt is a dark blue and black french cuff with a number of woven patterns house label from Gariani of Dallas. I went in looking for a new good black shirt and left with it because it is absolutely stunning. Looks midnight blue from afar and only up close can you tell the weave on the shirt. It's beautiful.

My Seidensticker "splendesto" pink-stripe with white contrast collar and cuffs. Easy care, has been worn nearly to death but still lifts any outfit I pair it with. Great shirt.

I have (had) several:

1.A silk ivory pleated formal shirt from Chipp I. It is over forty years old
and no longer fits. I still have it.

2. A bengal striped shirt with separate striped and white collars purchased at
Harrods in the 60s. It's long gone

3. Several 80s era T&A shirts with high neckbands and longish collar points.
Still have them. They no longer fit.

4.My last Andre Oliver shirt in a tannish flannel. Andre Oliver closed in 1986.

5. T&A striped oxford cloth. Wore it to the Meet-Up in February

6. Multi-stripe Drakes blue. Yes, the tie people make or made beautiful
shirts. Still fits.

A blue OCBD. Fortunately I have about a dozen of them.
