suggestions please - I have dinner in LA next week with a friend, needs to be less than 1 hour from airport. my preference would be something that is significantly better than what I could get in Chicago. Open to Korean, Mexican, interesting american, chinese, maybe my preference would be for a really really good thai. thanks

In-N-Out. Hands down. Just kidding, I'd recommend a place in Culver City perhaps. There is some good Thai there. Some good spots in Inglewood too, though Russ is probably better with the names than I am.

you can cover a lot of ground in 1 hr.

go to pailin or jitlada for northern and southern thai, respectively.

Hollywood is not even close to being reliably 1 hour from LAX anytime near rush hour.

My parents used to take me there every time they visited me at school. Then we had an epic family meltdown (not my fault, my brother) and we stopped going.

Joe's in Venice. http://joesrestaurant.com/ http://www.kevineats.com/2010/12/joe...eles-ca-2.html Although its divey, you can get some great sinaloan (Mexican) seafood at Marico Chente in Culver City-ish area. Nice cerviches...solid cooked shrimp dishes as well. http://articles.latimes.com/2009/mar/04/food/fo-find4
