im not picking a fight with you, just making a comment. i think there is to much focus on brands and people that buy like you prove my point. its not a bad thing i suppose ... it is what it is.
i would much rather have a suit made for me then buy one off the rack (yes, even a ysl rtw suit) simply because i could pick out the fabric, specify the cut, and it would fit me better. but more importantly, it would be unique.
i do buy certain brand names but that is because i think they are quality and i like how they fit me. but i would buy those very same pieces if they did not have a name.
ask yourself why you buy what you buy. is it because you are trying to impress your friends or do you buy because you think it is a quality garment that fits you and makes you feel better. i suspect it is the former because right away you mentioned you "did not know shit about brands" and missed out on this and that. but again, im not picking a fight just making a comment.

I actually kind of agree with whatever123, at least in regards to the way reedo phrased his comment.
If reed said something like (and I think this is what you meant) "I regret not knowing how to tell high quality, well made, and well fitting garments from poorly made and poorly fitting garments" I would agree with that. But the way it was phrased does make it sound like you only regret missing out on them because you know now that they are sf approved brands.

How would you even know to buy an item if you knew nothing of it's reputation? Imagine if all garments were brandless. It'd be extraordinarily time consuming and often an exercise in futility to search for actually quality pieces that fit great. Brand names are like a heuristics to assist in this process. Why would I buy to impress? The only people that know the brands I buy are the SF crowd, and it's absurd to allege that I spend thousands of dollars to impress my internet friends. And plus, the potential for flipping pieces on the Bay would have been extraordinary from that sale, which was part of the reason I mentioned the brands I missed out on in the original comment.

i think people like you would be fucked if garments didnt have tags.
can you name one garment that is not "sf approved" that you bought because you were impressed by the quality of the garment?
it really makes no difference if you spent a $100 or $100,000 on clothes ... it sounds like you are the type of person that buys based on the name and not the quality or fit of the garment. prove me wrong ... name one piece?
