I don't sell the same volume as you. And I sell enough to foreign buyers who can't use personal payment that it doesn't seem like anything fishy is going on. About half of my buyers don't have the personal payment option when off eBay. And about 90% of my revenue volume is thru feebay. So they probably still make a killing from me.

I imagine that was $2,000 almost all of it on FS forums and almost al of it personal payments? That's your mistake right there. Me, I sell maybe $2,500 on the feebay and maybe $700 on FS with about 50-60% of that personal payments. The number is going down once I started accepting Google Checkout. I've also started advertising money order and checks (support the USPS!) This is all revenue. The margins on toys is ridiculously low. This is my last year selling toys.

Revolution Money Exchange is a great service. Free to send, free to receive. It's just a bit inconvenient because you've gotta transfer money to their accounts first before you can spend it. Like a charge card that you have to charge up first like you're a 16 year old who has to get your dad to put money on it first. Free to charge up too. Everything is practically free. It has a great following on Bricklink which is a site where Lego enthusiasts sell and trade. I'm trying to get SF to catch onto Revolution Money Exchange. Unfortunately, RME is only available to US bank accounts.

How is Google Checkout better than PayPal? It's subject to the same IRS reporting requirement and has the same fee structure as PayPal.

Nobody said it was. But it sure removes the amount of volume any one particular payment service sees. And this may be desired for numerous reasons if you have a good enough imagination.

The few items I've shipped that have been lost were USPS first class to Russia, Malaysia, and South Africa. Priority to those countries have been fine; Express I'm sure would be even better.

Never (yet) lost anything express. Everything I've lost has been priority. I'll never ship anything 1st class because of the lack of tracking

I'll keep you guys updated on it. I know two is not a large enough n value to say if it works every time, but so far, it seems to work. I don't ship anything expensive. I sell toys on eBay.

The current dispute is over a $70 tickle me elmo sent to Germany (I have no idea why Germany loves Tickle Me Elmo. I think it has something to do with the fact that TMX Elmo's resting position looks like a person with their right arm up heiling a certain leader).

So yeah, it does booyah. I wish I got into more disputes just to do more booyahs (not really).

The way eBay sees it, is simple. They know sellers NEED ebay. But they know buyers don't. If a buyer gets a bad transaction, it will affect their future spending practices. If a seller has a bad experience, they simply can't fold up shop and go elsewhere since there is nowhere else to go. In essence, they placate to the buyer.

When I sell on here, I insist on personal payments only. It's a risk for the buyer, but they know my reputation on here.

Update on the dispute: The buyer dropped his case. This also appears to happen since I started taking photos. I think foreign buyers think they can pull a fast one and get a refund issued. Once they see my photos or I show Paypal the photos, they drop the case. This has happened three times ever since I started taking photos.

Lucky you.

All shipments bear a weight when you make the label. I sent something at 2lbs, I got back an empty box. I lost. Dont count on that for your claim....

My scariest shipment was a $2,500 computer to Russia. But the guy emailed me and reassured me that he was legit. He gave me his name and everything. I did a quick search of his email and he was a rather high up administrator in the Russian dept of education. It was still scary though. The photo he used as his ebay profile was the same photo that showed up during a google search. It took me a week to ship the computer after taking extra precautions and asking all the necessary questions to FedEx and UPS. I settled on USPS though.
