Well, I was tired, so jiggers and measures gave way to measuring by eye and adding whatever sounded good. I think I ended up with enough gin to smooth out the day, as much OJ as I happened to catch in the glass, a quick splash of dry vermouth, and (possibly) one or two dashes of bitters. Couldn't find the shaker, so I stirred it, added more ice and drank. The recipe you posted looks great! I'm definitely going to have to try that. As for tonight: I have to pick my wife up in a little while, so I'm keeping it light (for now) with a Yeungling Lord Chesterfield Ale. Not bad. Once I've got the wife safely home, dinner in my stomach and my Intermediate Accounting work done, I'll probably have a negroni or bourbon highball (made with Basil Hayden). Trying not to go TOO far overboard this week, since the wife and I are going to a big wine festival/6 course wine dinner/cigar tasting at the World's Greatest Grocery Store. Also, I was a bit too far gone to post about it afterward, but this weekend my brother introduced me to an oatmeal stout that is made especially for a little place called Black Bear (hippy-esque burritos and such) that was really nice. Ended up putting a few pitchers of that away between the two of us. EDIT: went for the bourbon highball (aka, bourbon and dry ginger). Good choice.

love going to Jungle Jim's when I visit my grandma, she only lives 15 minutes away, so it's a great excuse to insane on cheese and produce. Trying to kick myself into gear for the day, think I might pour a really crisp lemon lime and bitters.

impolyt_one, yeah it's a great excuse to go insane on a lot of things! Just got home from class and I'm having a small glass of Delirium Tremens while finishing up a few e-mails and tidying up the den before my wife comes home.

Out of those three, and in very broad terms, whiskey best for drinking straight, rum best for versatility in mixed drinks, and vodka is best as an industrial cleaner.

This is the best answer you will get: They ALL have their place, even vodka.

Enjoying a rare mid-week holiday from work, which means that lunch will be accompanied by a little something good...leaning towards a Macallan!

Have a little time before I need to pick my wife up from work, so I'm unwinding on the back porch with a bourbon manhattan and an unbanded cigar (dark, oily about robusto size). I'm guessing the cigar's a Partagas Black, since that's something I usually keep a few of in my humidor. From the looks of things, I took off the band and cut the tip a while back, then stashed it back in there.

Whatever it is, it's smoking well and is the perfect accompaniment to my evening.

Having a glass of Glenfiddich 15 year old Distiller's Edition. Very nice, and surprisingly smooth at over 100 proof. Nothing added, and the flavors are intense. Smoking a Liga Privada T-52 to accompany.
