Drinking the first ever home brew I did completely on my own instead of with my pops. A light german beer, Kolsch style. Very good beer. Hoppy, but not overpowering.

Thanks, guys. Pio, Old Bay FTW! Really though, as much as I love Eroica, hook yourself up with some nice Sancerre, or Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc. I had a lively Italian Verdissio last night with Arctic Char. Absinthe here tonight. 2:1.

Make it again when the warmer months arrive...Kölsch is a perfect summer-time beer IMO. And never tell anyone from Köln that you made your own, they are very provincial about their hometown style. I made the error of telling some Kölners that I enjoyed a beer from Düsseldorf and I was almost thrown in the river.

As for me, a decent Sauv Blanc from New Zealand: Fire Road Sauvignon Blanc 2008 Marlborough 2008. I was a little weary by the "flashiness" of the label; which usually corresponds to a winery trying to sell on style rather than substance. But this was not bad for the price. Nice balance of fruit and floral and not too sharp or acidic.

When we first tasted it, that's exactly what we thought--- perfect for summer. Too bad my summer is consumed by Bombay Sapphire.
I love german beers though. There's a place in Indy called Rathskeller with great German food and a huge selection of beers. I can't get enough of that place. I can see why they'd be so serious about it.

Kwilk, congrats on your homebrew.

We had a nice 2006 Benton Lane pinot from Willamatte Valley with a 24 oz ribeye for two at dinner tonight. Very nice.

Been enjoying Sierra Nevada's new Torpedo IPA. Bad name, good beer.
