Just got home from work and it's hot as hell outside, so I'm enjoying a simple Budweiser. Only had one can sitting in the fridge and I figured now's as good a time as any.

No, it's a quote from the movie "Joe": Joe (Peter Boyle) offers his blueblooded guest, Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick), a beer and gives him the choice: Bud or Miller? The distracted Compton unenthusiastically chooses Bud, to which Joe replies....

It's also the marketing phrase from the (beer)producers, no? I took it as meaning this. No idea about the film.

Yes, Bud's slogan/motto/moniker is "the King of Beers" (that's why Joe says it). I was surprised to see young people drinking it in Europe. Ice cold, it's an OK hot day lager (boat beer), but why you'd pay more (I think) to drink it when there were a host of better beers available is a testament to the marketing power and savvy of Augustus Busch.

p.s Good film featuring Susan Sarandon's screen debut....

Seriously over-priced ($15.99/six-pack), but bad-ass.

Not overpriced here where it's made ($7). Also, though it's one of their best... IMHO not the best. That designation would go to their "Arrogant Bastard Ale." San Diego beers are excellent. Try any Ballast Point brews you find as well.

Oh yeah, currently I'm drinking a Negroni made with Junipero Serra gin (from Ancho Distillers).

Last week I tried a Belgium beer, 'Delirium Tremens', which was... interesting. At €2.50-ish for 33cl not one I'll be indulging in frequently.
