I agree generally with the Lagavulin 16 and Laphroaig 10 as starters. Better to make sure you like the "house style" before getting invested in limited editions and the like.
Talisker is also a fun and tasty option with the 10 and especially if you can find the Distiller's Edition for a good price. Not an Islay (Isle of Skye distillery), but has peat, smoke, and brine along with citrus to add complexity in a different direction.
