What are you drinking right now? - Page 1052

Had some of this for the first time at Osteria Mozza last night. Really good, with an intensely long bitter finish. Had no idea it was so pricey for an amaro ($60 for a bottle on the Astor Wines website). Fortunately, the bartender comped us. And a quartino of wine. And another two glasses of wine. And a cocktail. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Drank a lot of Montenegro. Seemed to be the most common choice for the Italians too. Really enjoyed Branca Menta, hit the spot in the heat. I had one that was fantastic but wasn't sure of the name, never saw the bottle. I think it was one of the offerings by Nonino. Heavy grappa profile, orange, cinnamon. Good stuff.

how was the coffee?

nonino also make grappas that are quite good

Meh, pretty similar most places. Not great, not terrible. I was up at Lake Como for a work thing for most of it, so it's probably not the best coffee scene. Had a bunch of Nespresso at the conference. One place in Florence was pulling really good shots.

I had a Nonino Eight Year reserve which was fantastic.

I like it for added kick to Mojitos, or as a hi-ball, but too sweet on its own.

@cocostella what else in the highball?  just soda?

Seltzer, crushed ice and squeeze of lime. Damn refreshing.

Michelada for lunch.

I was at my home cocktail bar last night and decided to try the branca menta highball. When I said "soda" the first time, he gave it to me mixed with the coke that comes in the glass bottle. Good but too sweet. Second time I said replace the coke with seltzer. He said "it's Gona be gross". It was delightful.

Glad he got it right eventually. I wish the Branca Menta wasn't so sweet, but it's still very enjoyable if deployed correctly.

Branca Menta is basically just Fernet Branca with mint syrup, so it's pretty easy to do yourself and adjust as you like.

I also had the opportunity to try some amaro di angostura. Surprisingly enjoyable, almost refreshing.

Picked up a little something on my way through Heathrow coming back to the US. Stuff is $200/bottle around here, was less than half that in the airport. Not a bad treat on the way home. It's a nice sherried dram. I like my sherried whiskey a little higher proof, but it's solid. Would have been rather upset at $200/bottle.
