Funny. Met him when we went for drinks (and karaoke) after a dinner event (at the 4S) in April. Small world.

Spumoni. Then Aperol Spritz. Gin & Tonic. Then Caprese, Parmigiana di melanzane napoletana, and a bottle of Taurasi for the Italy game.

Dark & Stormy then with dinner a bottle of clean skin Marlborough Pinot Noir.

A Gin & Tonic. An Aperol Spritz. A leftover glass of Taurasi for dinner. A bottle of Domaine Ott Bandol 2014 for the France game. And off to Napoli tomorrow. smile.gif

Decided to challenge myself and not drink for 5 weeks so I haven't posted anything in a while. Made a mint julep for the first time last night though.

It was delicious.

Had a couple glasses of vinho verde with dinner, man you can practically chug that stuff.

Just finished a great Manhattan variant I made: both rye and brandy, carpano, allspice dram, cherry and expressed orange peel. Avoided making it too sweet, which can happen with the allspice dram.

Going to wrap up with a splash of scotch and call it a night.

On a side note, I just spent a couple days in New Orleans for the first time. Some great old bars there (but a lot of shitty tourist places as well). Made me realize that while I like absinthe quite a lot in cocktails, there are better things to drink than absinthe and water plain.

Absinthe seems to be all the rage in "speakeasy" style bars. I've seen a bunch of places do the whole ritual; the big chilled water dripper and all that. It's kind of neat, but straight absinthe just isn't that interesting to drink.

Absinthe frappe is kind of fun when it's hot out.

A 2012 Gary's Vineyard Loring Pinot with dinner and just now had a Reyka vodka martini with 1/2 Lillet and 1/2 NP to make a 1:3.5. Stirred of course.

Next up going to open that bottle of Crown Royal all the Canucks are going crazy for.

I did both the chilled water routine and an absinthe frappe (which I hadn't heard of before). I don't think I'll be ordering plain chilled water / absinthe again. The frappe was alright, but that might have been due to the surroundings. Being in a 200 year old dive bar with speed metal on the sound system was pretty great.

Bundy Rum and Black Death with a slice of lime. Probably the first of many tonight to wash down the NZ v Wales and Wallabies v Poms rugby games.
