Had about an hour to kill in the UES/Yorktown area of NYC last night. Normally, I would go to Bemelman's, but they are packed these days. Boloud's place, Bar Pleides, was across the street. It was fine, of course, but nothing in any way that stood out.

Chichicapa is my favorite Del Maguey. I always stock a bottle of that and a bottle of Vida.

St. Patrick's day tipple. 12 year cask strength Redbreast Irish whiskey. I'd love to find a bottle of the 15 year Redbreast.

A den/library? Is that some sort of sad hybrid for people who can't afford a proper-sized home, like having a kitchen/breakfast nook or something?
When did we start allowing the peasantry to participate in this thread?

It's a bar with fairly nice Regency decorum (with an excellent cigar lounge as well that sports interesting pieces liek 40th an. Behikes and a wide range of Cuban Dunhills and Davidoffs).
Not sure the books are actually real, I only know the Cognac book (that goes back to 1770) biggrin.gif

I'd tried some before & knew it wasn't my cuppa, but the Ka Va Lan was everywhere in Taipei--anyone have any opinions?

(Actuall, Taipei is a great whisky city--very available everywhere, some great shops, and excellent prices...for Asia at least)

Yeah I've tried a few and some are tasty but way too expensive. They taste older than they actually are but still has that brashness
