Having what I call An Old Fashioned Christmas

Using Buffalo Trace that I infused with orange rinds and vanilla bean pod. Simply syrup (1.5:1 so not quite "rich") I infused with fresh ginger root.

.75 oz ginger infused simply syrup
3 oz infused Buffalo Trace
Three dashed Bitter Truth Aromatic bitters
large piece of orange rind

Rocks, stir, enjoy.

Piobaire- I like the idea of using ginger with bourbon. Thanks for the thought.

Paul Beau 50 Year Old Cognac. Incredible.

Polar shortcut. Ron zacapa 23, cherry brandy, dry vermouth, Cointreau. I think the recipe was too sweet.

Bartenders gave me a nice tipple of this. So good. Bourbon barrel aged Bowmore. Almost thought it was a highland at first. Flowery, fruity, elegant, refreshing, light. Honestly tasted like when you add just enough acid to a dish that you don't taste the acid itself but kinda makes the dish lighter. Dunno how to explain well

I think it's the oldest whisky I've ever had --> 53 years in the barrel :D

I put them in a tasting note in here:

If you don't feel like reading a whole article about it I can tell you in short that it was interesting indeed but for the price of over a thousand grand per bottle a large number of other options can be listed :)

Drank laphroaig triple wood and big peat today

But this was by far more interesting

It's called hwayo. It's an "artisanal" soju. 41% abv. Very very interesting. Flowery, spicy, slightly sweet (?), strong but watery (?). It reminds me of shochu a lot. I thought it was actually quite good. Apparently only $10. Might have to look for this

Went to a bar on recommendation of my favorite bartender. Turned out to be a super nerdy bar. Really enjoyed my time here

Four kinds of martinis, three kinds of manhattans, three kinds of sazeracs. Everything the dude did and said was like music to my ears. Proper use of terminology (or at least great deal of thought into it)

Favorite was a Ramos gin fizz. It was quite fun. Basically my table of friends had to pass the Boston shaker around and we made the drink together. Tasted like an orange creamsicle. Had a bunch of other things like the scofflaw and brandy crusta. They also did an interesting take on the negroni. Flamed an orange slice and use that as a garnish.

Everything was balanced. Ice is all clear and hand carved. They could use better glasses but the bartenders palate was so on point. Was very impressed. He was also extremely knowledgeable. Also very impressive. Learned so much.
