That's really sort of genius on their part. The draw back with aged spirits is the time between production and eventual sale. Now they just distill it and sell it.

I have a bottle of unaged rye. It's not bad, but I probably wouldn't buy another. Problem is that there is no indispensable cocktail that uses unaged whiskey. A White Manhattan is probably the closest, but it's not something I need to drink regularly.

I don't get it either... It's basically just moonshine, which people don't drink because it tastes good.

More to the point is its price. How the fuck can you sell an unaged product for more than the aged version?

I'm really not a fan of white whiskeys. I think it's one of the dullest categories. It's nice from the perspective of deconstructing a spirit and learning about the category through that route.

I just see this price as a slap in the face to consumers.

They're selling it like it is a premium, boutique product, and charging accordingly. Cost of production doesn't enter into it. Makes sense for them, but I sure as hell wouldn't buy a white whiskey at any price.

I did find their labeling of the product to be interesting. Moonshine and white whiskey are category names consumers are familiar with. These are selling really well. JD decided to label it as unaged rye which I haven't seen. I'm wondering why they decided to do this differentiation.

I hate maple with cocktails, yuck. Tasted (not by choice) the Crown Royal Maple....oh my is that bad.
