Friend of mine had his first kid about a week ago. Last night we cracked a bottle of Balveine 1966 Vintage Cask to celebrate. They don't make them like that anymore, unfortunately.

Did a vertical tasting of El Dorado 12 year, 15 year and 21 year rums with a few friends.

Unanimous agreement in order of preference: 21, 12, 15.

El Dorado is nice but pricey compared to its (better peers). For 15 I prefer Barboncourt and when you get into 18-21 year range, I prefer Don Abuelo and Zafra. Zafra 21 is my favorite rum right now.

Half a bottle of wine and a Corpse Reviver #2 in tonight, and it's not even 10 yet. Probably going with my still unnamed Dark rum, lime juice, Creme de Framboise and peychaud's bitters recipe next.

Drinking a small bit of this (picked up based on gnatty), clearing up my stuffed nose nicely.

Always meant to try some of that Bluecoat stuff since it's ubiquitous in Philly. Any good? Is it one of those weak gins aimed at vodka drinkers?

Looking forward to trying it. I have a couple of friends who will enjoy it, so I'll open it when they are over.

It's certainly not a faux-vodka. Not a juniper bomb, but it's got plenty of botanicals. So far tried a little bit straight, the Negroni, and working on a martini now. It held up well to the Campari in the Negroni. The citrus profile really worked well there. Perhaps not my favorite in the martini but it's still good.

Been on a gin kick recently, after drinking almost exclusively Hendricks for a long time. Went through Citadelle, Plymouth, The Botanist Islay Dry, and now this. Plymouth earned a permanent spot on my shelf, still trying to decide about the others. Citadelle was good but nothing spectacular.

It's funny, I never get surprised about how quickly I'm going through whisk(e)y, but sometimes a bottle of gin will just evaporate. I went through a bottle of Plymouth in a week and had no idea. I think I can blame my wife, she doesn't drink whiskey but loves gin. I end up making double batches of cocktails and it just walks off.
