Had angel's envy last night, it was good but not much going on outside of the port finish.

This. Very good with a splash of water. Damn if Buffalo Trace is not producing some really excellent whiskies. Not my picture:

3 oz Jameson
1 splash Dry Vermouth
1 Splash Sweet Vermouth

Stir over ice, garnish with a lemon twist in a lowball.

Got obliterated on French 75s last night and no hangover today, whatsoever.

What a delightful concoction.

Had the Glendronich last night, it was good but didn't really stand out. Definetly enjoyable without screaming at you.

Manhattan with Bulleit and Noilly Pratt. Added 1/4 oz more of Noilly Pratt to sweeten it a tad. Really enjoying it

For a smooth dram that is in no way what I think of as "challenging," it is a great Scotch. I, for one, do not really enjoy the stuff that is a challenge to drink due to excessive iodine or peat.

I usually think of burn as referring to the alcohol burn. Which is entirely independent of flavor- I consider something like Laphroaig 18 to be very smooth, but, just a hunch, it's probably one you would put in the excessive iodine and peat category.

I do know what you mean about something being challenging to drink though- iodine and peat are great for me, but really strong peppery notes can slow me down, though that's usually a problem I run into with bourbon or rye.

yeah, I'm not so cerebral as to want to be challenged by my alcohol, I just want something that tastes good.

Ed, give it a try it's one of my favourite scotches. You may end up enjoying the Quinta Ruban as well, it has a port finish like the Angel's envy.
