just cracked a bottle of Cadenhead's 12 year old Demerara rum - Guyana rum finished in Scotland in Laphroaig casks (which the boxing or label do not say) - it's fucking disgusting. I have a whole bottle of this too. Fuck.

why would you finish rum in scotch casks? I understand the other way around.

The El Dorado 15 is good, but I prefer the Barbancourt 15 and its cheaper.

So I tried the Crown Royal Black last night. Pleasantly surprised, since in find the run of the mill CR suitable only for mixing.

Yeah, seems odd. Adding some those earthy/sugary rum notes to scotch = interesting. Adding smoke, salt, iodine (etc) to rum....weird.

Good to know. I have not tried the Black yet but found the Cask 16 stuff great for manhattans.

Been meaning to ask you Piob: what's a good widely available Canadian whiskey? Pretty lousy selection of Canadian around here.

Look for Wiser's. Deluxe (8 year old) or Oldest (12 year old). Should be able to get a handle of deluxe for about $20.

Jefferson's Straight Rye.

I like that it doesn't have the sweetness of some Bourbons and it's pretty smooth. I've never really had many other 'good' ryes so I don't know how it compares to them, but I like that it has the taste of Bourbon without the sticky sweetness that's sometimes present. And after the first sip or so I thought it would be something I couldn't have more than a few glasses of, but a few sips later prompted a few more glasses and I'm wearing out my backspace key. nod[1].gif
