Help me out with this. If you're adding twice the amount of sugar to begin with, where's the deduction?

Earlier, Macallan 12 year old neat. Now, Van Winkle Family Reserve rye, also, neat.

Speaking of fat washing, I've had the luck to try a few great meat infused drinks. I've had a lamb-chop mint julep, cranberry and turkey flavoured cocktail (forgot name & spirit base) and of course bacon bourbon. Awesome idea, however not practical to include them on a regular bar menu.

I have to agree. I'd assumed this was a joke. I am shattered to learn that it was not. Why the fuck do you guys drink at all? I mean, can't you eat that?

I was just having a little fun with the bacon fat thing. I only used several ounces of Maker's so it's not going to be a national tragedy if it tastes like crap.

The ones I tried were actually really good. Not a drink I'd actually order but it was cool to try. The smokiness from the turkey was particularly good. The infusion really captures the best tasting flavors. It's kind of like tasting something for the first time, every time you have a sip. Does that make sense?

My scotch collection is looking a bit sad, I've gone through most of my good scotches. The JW is there simply because one of my friends likes to drink it, the remainder of my Oban 14yr exists in the decanter. The Aberlour a'bunadh speyside hiding out in the back there is pretty good....and very strong.

Anywho, I've been on a Cognac bend and while I'm a newb to Cognac, these three have come highly recommended from my local specialty shop. I've been drinking the youngest one of about a month and definitely enjoy it. The blue seal is actually an Armagnac, which I'm excited to break open.

I was in Austin, TX recently and since it seemed appropriate to me, I was drinking Bourbon rather than scotch or cognac and found a few that I really enjoyed, however I completely forgot the names of them....so I'm open to recommendations if you guys would be so kind as to make them.

Blanton's, Booker's, Knob Creek, Baker's, Basil Haden's, Eagle Rare, Dickel, Woodford Reserve, Noah's Mill, Pappy Van Winkle.. maybe one of them? lots of good stuff out there.
You may also take a look at Rye (Rittenhouse and Sazerac among others).

Basil's I believe, thank you! I may try a few of those however.

Edit, Noah's mill gets great reviews so I may in fact get that ahead of Basil's. Basil's reviews poorly though I enjoyed it...

That would probably be an improvement. Maple and cocktails are never things that I have found worked for me.

Can I substitue Fernet Branca with Amaro Nonino? Would like to make a Hanky Pranky later today.
