Birthday yesterday -- so what comes to mind? Le Lion, of course. Went with my parents.
I've had a Blood and Sand to begin with. Laphroaig 10. I prefer it with a different Scotch. This one was very smooth, other Scotches made a little rougher cocktail. Not sure which I had the last times.
Next in line was a Sazerac with Sazerac Rye. First time I had rye. Very nice. Tad sweet, but overall quite good. Also had a sip of Sazerac and Rittenhouse (bonded though) Rye in comparison. Difficult to compare because 90/100 proof, but I think I prefer the Sazerac, it seems more well rounded (but more pricey, too).
Last one was a cocktail by the barkeeper: Sazerac Rye, Noilly Prat Ambre, peach bitters. I liked it ok, not a fan of peach bitters -- they smell like peach iced tea to me.
My mother began with a Ranglum, next was a Blood & Sand, last a Whiskey Smash.
Father: Gansevoort Fizz, Royal Bermuda Yacht Club cocktail, Old Fashioned with Blanton's (don't remember which one).
Overall a very pleasant evening, once again.
