In Praise of Olive

A spinoff of the navy, gray, and brown threads. The forgotten color: olive.

I have no objection to olive in principle, but I have to admit that when I think of olive suits I think of those awful things basketball coaches wear courtside.

I'm sure they're out there, but I have yet to see a gorgeous olive suit in person.

It's a color that, to me, wants to be a non-color, some nebulous thing between gray and brown.

Just my .02.

As long as it is not that awful super worsted '80s olive, I can appreciate it. I can't wear it due to my skin tone.

I think olive is a nice colour but I personally find it difficult to pull off well. Is it just me or do the pictures look closer to brown than true olive green?

Me too, in the military...bad associations...

Like the color but have to agree that it is seldom seen in a flattering light. As a suit it seems like a color that doesn't lends itself to too many color combinations and probably is why not many people resort to olive as a go to pick.

top left and middle bottom are nicest IMO.

I'm working the theory that olive works best when combined with navy and gray. The image in the lower left gives the general idea. So does the one on the lower right.

I own two olive suits and a couple pairs of olive pants, but I will admit that seeing someone in an olive suit always makes me think "German" for some reason.

The only things I like in olive are bags and small leather goods

Will we be having a dedicated thread for each and every color ?

No, next we'll have the backlash: "Navy is overrated."
