BiG pricing vs Japan - Page 2

Actually, you guys are forgetting one very important thing, which is that the currency buy and sell rates are different from the actual conversion rate. On top of that, most banks or credit cards charge a fee for currency exchange, and you are looking at a much less favorable conversion rate than 0.0083. And then there are the middleman fees to take into account. I would say that the prices would therefore be about on parity for the high end jeans, and considerably cheaper at BIG for the lower end jeans (say, John Bull Chop Sews) if all that is taken into account.

Man, I wish I were in Japan now; the exchange rate would be great! The yen was beating the dollar many of the times I had to exchange money while studying in Tokyo.

yeah, i agree with LA guy, the fact that someone brought a Japanese denim store to america still boggles my mind. i remember wandering lost in Ueno in '03 looking at the jeans and always regretted buying them. But then i find a shop that sells the same shit i went to japan to buy....fucking A!

as far as i know there is about a $40 difference comparing the retail price of BiG and stores in japan. shipping by EMS usually takes $20, so you will most likely be better off with BiG than some proxy (which is partly the reason im not doing one myself).

they also stock some pairs that are pain to find even in japan, such as AI-001. they really do have an impressive selection there..

IMO, always go through BiG first. If they dont have what you want, look elsewhere. 1) you can return, 2) free chainstitching, 3) they speak perfect english, 4) support the biz! 5) buying from them shows demand for japanese denim in america, which means that more retailers will start selling it, which means more japanese denim in america!

But then those "SF/SuFu in-the-know" types would not wear such exclusive gear, in the US.
