I don't think it will be there last. I think they have at least one more album due to their contract. I'm a little torn on the album. On one hand it's reassuring that they're still capable of writing really catchy songs (Undercover of Darkness), but this album, and the last, have sounded a bit self indulgent. Too many different ideas, a lack of cohesiveness. Also, Julian Casablanca's vocals sound a bit lost in the mix. This might be the first album of theirs that I won't buy.

How time flies... I remember seeing them for the first time in a rerun of Conan on Comedy Central. They were performing "Soma" and I became an instant fan. I thought their two first albums were good.

Just got done with my third listen. It is probably the third best out of four. I think that there three really good songs that will be on the Greatest Hits someday (Machu Picchu, Under Cover of Darkness, and Life is Simple in the Moonlight). There are four songs that are pretty good, and three that are pretty awful.

Metabolism is probably the worst song they've ever made.

In the end, if this were a six song EP people would be talking about how The Strokes are back and what a masterpiece it is. But it's a ten song LP and some crap on it.

That said, I do think the album probably has the best technical work from both Valensi and Fraiture.
