So I'm going to a ball - tuxedo advice

Hey guys, so I finally have a reason to get all dressed up with the mrs for the office ball which has been specified as black tie. I'm planning on possibly getting one tailored; single breasted with peak lapel. What are everyone's recommendations on shirt and collar? I'm not a fan of cumberbunds, I was thinking of a waistcoat, possibly in white. Finally, what is the standard for shoes these days? Patent/high shine leather or regular oxfords?
Thanks guys.

Single breasted, peak lapel (or shawl), plain front shirt with turndown collar, bow tie that matches the facings of the lapel, black waistcoat, patent oxfords.

+1. Get the waistcoat (3 or 4-button low-cut) to match the fabric of the suit. Get the dinner suit in midnight blue instead of black. It looks deeper than black. But get the lapels in black grosgrain.
