going to visit the gf's grandma in indian wells (palm desert i think) this weekend and looking for some suggestions for good restaurants. we'll be near the el dorado country club or something and need some options other than eating there. thanks!

wherever there's an early bird special.

Haha. Good luck. Mammagina isn't terrible and Cuistot was OK many years ago, but I haven't been recently. If you are in to nostalgia, hit Wally's Desert Turtle. There is actually a very good barbecue place out in Indio, but I forget the name.

mangina? i had a feeling there'd probably be limited choices out there.... thanks though. i'll just eat grapefruit and vodka smoothies!

it's pretty much of a wasteland, i'm afraid. folks don't move out there for the cuisine. though they may well move out there for the vodka smoothies.

Babe's BBQ? Been there but not memorable. It was a standalone chain-looking joint along the highway.

yea, youre in retirement country, son. Try to get dinner before 6 pm.

I went to my first brazilian churascarria (sp) place out there and it was really good.

No, this was some years ago, before Babes opened. It was a seedy place with good food. I don't even know if it is still there.

not food oriented, but the cabezon outlet stores are not far from there. they're one of the better thought of outlet malls. there's two, i think the better one is called desert hills. haven't been in years, but iirc, they had some pretty high-end stuff (bottega veneta, armani, etc.). don't have a clue how their prices are these days. probably like all the rest, if you get lucky, it can be amazing.
