You hung out at a blind pig? Did you smoke lids of tea and listen to hard bop platters while you were there?

Relevant to both pussies and private clubs, here's some art above a urinal in a private club:

The Elks Lodge in SF has filled their gym's pop machine with cans of beer.

In the 1970s my boss would have me deliver, and pick up things here, at The Palma Boys Social Club

I wonder if Fat Tony is still alive?

There's a reasonable chance that I'm a member of said club (I have the pleasure of paying dues @ a couple of them here in Boston). I'd say there are a few scenarios where membership makes sense, but it's generally not a great deal. At various times in my life and career, the major benefits for me have been: (1) access to good private dining/meeting facilities; (2) access to reciprocal overnight clubs - especially in expensive hotel cities (NYC, London, Paris); (3) extending my living space from a small apartment to something more livable. In terms of leveraging the club to meet people, I just don't see it. Most of the members are old and not people who you will have much in common with. I don't know how old you are, but if you're under 60, you'll stick out like a sore thumb at any events. Unfortunately, I don't see the social/dining club lasting very much longer. It's a real shame, because some of the facilities are really, really nice, and have a TON of potential to adapt into modern lifestyles, but lack the vision and willingness of the members to do so (in Boston, the University Club has probably done the best job, but there's just tremendous potential being wasted with these facilities). If you want feedback on a specific club, feel free to PM me - I have a pretty good feel for each of them.
