With how poorly V performed in its first season, it was lucky it didn't get canceled after one season. Now, with a new president at ABC who isn't tied to the decisions of the past and even worse ratings this season, the writing was on the wall that this show will not get renewed.
But, instead of wrapping up the storyline, the producers just threw out a desperate cliff hanger even though everybody pretty much knew this was their final season. Its the same problem that the Event suffers from- instead of addressing the problems with their characters or story line, they think that a random cliff hanger can solve all their problems.
