US Passes France In Wine Consumption - Page 10

On the verge of sounding more sycophantic than usual, knowing that this is Matt's favorite book about wine explains more about his palate and appreciation for wine than any of the numerous bottles we've shared.

You will need to explain, please. As I understand it, whisky is Scottish; whiskey is Irish.

That part is correct. However, the slight difference in spelling is not the point of what your jest was. They are both English! "Usquebaugh" turned into "whisky" in Scotts-English and "whiskey" in Hiberno-English (Irish). In the Gaelic, it was "uisge beatha" for the Scotts and "uisce beatha" for the Irish.

Now, Canadian = whisky, due to the Scottish settlement far outweighing the Irish settlement in Canada. So if you insist on using an "e," you are going to have your Canadian Card revoked.

Also, you used the Scottish spelling for "sassenach," not the Irish spelling of "sasanach." So you were kind of being inconsistent there.

It's all in good fun.
