Florsheim by Duckie Brown Cordovan Shoe & Boot Thread - Page 10

hmmmm. . . from Yellow Baggers (The Daffy's blog):

As I've said before, Daffy's always amazes me in its ability to bring in such high end goods and such junk in the same week. And this week was no exception to that tradition.

The best stuff was a small selection (maybe 1 dozen pairs down here in Philly) of shoes from Florsheim by Duckie Brown. Priced between $119-$139 from what I saw. Not the best constructed things in the world (made in India), but a great brand that is generally only found at places like Bloomingdales and high end boutiques, well worth the asking price. Half the stock had disappeared by Friday evening when I had gotten there and they were put out that day (hint hint, folks at Daffy's corporate).

In light of this thread, $119-139 might be significantly overpriced confused.gif

NAMOR,

You had trouble with those brown/tan Duckie Browns from Brooks Bros last year, didn't you? I remember the discoloration in your pictures. Why do you keep thinking their quality will be good?

C'mon, man. You know better than this...

Because the second pair looked great. See pics from late June.

So can anyone else confirm that the "cordovan" color shoes that have been shipping out from the recent Gilt sale are not actual cordovan? (Just the dark cherry ones are, from the sounds of it?) Ugh.

Hi mate, I have received the "Cordovan" pair from recent gilt sales. They are cheap cheap leather with thick paint job.

My pair are shell cordovan - they have the Horween stamp - but the sole has definitely been painted. It's been turning white as the paint has worn off. It seems odd that the Horween stamp is on the sole, as I don't think they'd use Cordovan on the sole, and as far as I know, Horween does not make sole leather anyway (am I mistaken on this?). Anyway, my soles are clearly plain leather that has been painted. I'll post picks when I get a chance.
Having said that, I've had relatively good luck with mine. I knew going in what I was getting and decided to keep mine because of the price. The Horween cordovan is nice enough that they couldn't screw it up.
As for dealing with Gilt, their final sale is policy is nonrefundable. But given that the product is defective, I think they might accept a return. You should still contact them about these. Here's my little story about them: I used a Gilt credit to purchase something on Park and Bond that was final sale. The item was not as described on the site. I emailed them and told them this and I wanted a refund. They replied that the item was described properly, but they were looking at the Gilt site, not the Park and Bond site. After I pointed this out, they accepted a return and refunded my money for the item plus shipping. So a little unorganized, but in the end they did the right thing.

Mate if the sole has the Horween stamp that means the upper is made of shell cordovan. Lucky you your pair is shell cordovan. Please post picture of your shoes including the sole if you don't mind.

Yeah if it's cordovan, it'll have the horween stamp. My other pair does and its real shell cordovan.

Just file a chargeback. Sounds like a perfectly legitimate use to me. Gilt fuckers!

Cordovan could easily describe a color. Gilt's description never stated they were made of Horween Shell. Park & Bond has been sending me all kinds of wrong items or misdescribed items but instead of contacting them I just filed the return and stated everything they did not describe correctly. If they decide to charge me a return fee, then I'll go to the credit card companies.

Imagine how I felt when I opened the box. I thought it would be not so perfect shell cordovan. And to my surprise they were cheap leather heavily sprayed with cordovan paint.
Ok I must admit the things I liked about them- Sleek classic design, 3 ply leather welted sole and insole is quite comfy (more comfy than AE).
The things I hated – no attention to details, all of gilt stocks are returns form stores and online, defective shoes .
Gents I have done some research these shoes were made in Horween Shell Cordovan on 5 selected colors - Black Smooth * Burgundy * Navy * Dark Cherry * Scotch
http://www.florsheim.com/shop/duckiebrownDetail.html?styleCode=19007

So any colors other then those 5 are NOT shell cordovan.
I did pull trigger on the Navy shell cordovan at gilt today(I know even after all these) . But they are at $249. I am 100% sure the Navy pair is shell cordovan.
I was surprised that the Black Smooth wasn’t shell cordovan.
I have taken pictures of all the defective points and will email gilt tonight to get some answers.

Argh. The shoes have arrived at my house, but now I'm not even looking forward to going home and opening them. Let us know what Gilt says, md. I'm probably out of luck anyways, I'm in Canada (although I had them shipped to my cousin in the U.S.).

So, I get home to my shoes, and mine do have the Horween stamp. Mine are cordovan, I guess?

I tried them on quickly; sizing down a half size to 8.5 fits great. I'll post more impressions and pictures later. Off to Valentines dinners with the girlfriend!
