I was reading Phat Guidos blog recently and something surprised me. He said to stay away from salons and such and stick with old school traditional barbers for good professional cuts. My experience says the exact opposite. My experience with haircuts is that you get what you pay for. Most of the old school places use clippers for most of the cut, which is lazy and, imo, not the best. There is no control with clippers. My guy was trained by Vidal Sassoon and does the whole job with a pair of scissors and it takes him a long time. Perhaps if you have easy hair and want some sort of military looking haircut it works, but for me, I disagree.

They will be able to help but you would need to go in when your hair is longer then what you desire. They will be able to cut the shape right and then show which hardware and software you need to achieve this look. Just know it will never look as good as some one with thicker wavy hair to begin with.

Not true, they can style it so it will look well when it grows out.
Also, about the helmet taking off thing. I don't know, but I have a feeling it will look gross and matted to your sweaty face.
