Anyone been to Phuket? - Page 2

went a few years ago after the tsunami hit. I had prepared by taking a map and address of the hotel. The cab driver didn't know of the hotel I was supposed to stay. He said everything changed since the tsunami, had to re-learn everything. Can't remember the name of hotel in Patong Beach but it was near the edge of the beach. Quiet compared to middle where all the tourist traffic was. We stayed for a few days but any longer it would have been boring. Nothing to do except sleep on the beach and oggle at the Europeans women sunbathing topless. The morning I landed, I took pictures of the surrounding beach and scenery. I didn't realize that I had taken a picture of a older lady strolling along the beach topless. I'm pretty sure she swore at me in French when walked past me with me taking pictures.

Only part of Phuket worth visiting in my opinion is the old colonial district. Why anyone would stay on the terrible beaches in that area when there's some of the most beautiful in the world on islands nearby is beyond me. I guess some people just 'have' to stay in a populated city no matter where they travel.

I only spent 1 night in Phuket, but I enjoyed my stay on the Phi Phi Islands much better. Just google it and look at the images that come up. You're missing out if you don't take the 45 minute ferry to go visit.

Good suggestion. Hua Hin is very nice.

Some parts of Phuket are quite nice but Ao Nang which is near Krabi (three hours drive away) is absolutely stunning

beautiful setting....IIRC this was the first Aman property, others are a bit nicer in my opinion but the service here was exceptional. Only went to Patong once and beat a hasty retreat.

It has been 15 years since we last visited Phuket, but we enjoyed the Marina hotel at the southern end of Karon Beach enough to go two years running.
