Super 8 Movie - JJ Abrams/Steven Spielberg

Thread Starter
Been curious since I saw the first teaser last summer in 2010. Watched the second trailer a few moments ago. I'm still going to watch it when it comes out, but after watching the second trailer I feel more ho-hum about it. Thoughts?

one thing that always annoyed me about spielbergs films is his overuse of overwrought music,to the point where it sounds campy.

Spielberg is producing this, not directing it.

I was moderately pumped after the first trailer. Now that I know it's going to be a movie centred around kids, I'll wait for DVD. 99% of the time, children in movies suck.

Most anticipated film right now. Can't wait.

"Stand By Me" was great, but I agree pretty much.

+1. the only exception to this rule, imo, is the goonies.

a dvd is like $20. a movie ticket at the right time is like $4.50.

huh?
The scores of Jaws, Encounters, E.T., Indiana Jones, Shindler's List, and about 20 other Spielberg movies are all classics. John Williams is most likely the greatest living film composer.

But all of this is moot as Super 8 is neither directed by Spielberg nor scored by Williams.

A dvd is a 3 dollar rental. Why would I ever spend 20 bucks on a dvd for a movie I've never watched?

why would you spend $3 to rent a movie 7 months after it came out rather than spend $5 and see it in a huge theater when it comes out?

Because they're different environments. If I go to a theatre, (it's 12 bucks, not 5) it's a more immersive experience, and you make certain concessions: no talking with people, no leaving the seats, etc. For 3 dollars I can watch it with a group of friends, and it's less of a risk of 2 1/2 hours of boredom. It's a social event, with a lot more freedom. I have fun, no matter how terrible the movie is.

I don't understand why anyone with a gaming console, an internet connection, and a high-def TV even rents DVDs anymore. It's called Netflix on-demand, and it's your new best friend.
