Hey guys what do you think about one button sportcoat. I was planning on getting one and wearing it with jeans.

Wouldn't look right to me. I don't even like 1-button suits.

One-button blazer?

No thanks, I think I will pass. I hate two-buttons too. So I can even think about the later.

If you want to look like in the 80's, then I guess you can do that, but where is the point frankly?

each to their own but 1 button jackets are pretty traditional, Hunstman's house cut for example is a 1 button.

personally I think that on a slim man they look very sleek and streamlined as the superfluous second button is absent, on a larger man however- i imagine they would highlight rather than flatter a more rotund form.

well then i'm all for it. It is however, a less conventional choice these days so maybe not appropriate for a conservative business dress environment.

what about just wearing it casually around town with jeans. Do you think that would work? Just wear the blazer on casual friday?

Sorry, just wanted to stick that 80s thing in there. I love the 80s and you should too. Tears For Fears and Soft Sell; it doesn't get any better than that. Anyway, one-button blazers have been around forever, 40s and 50s movies are full of then, well maybe not full, but some here and there. Think they're thought more European as in French and Italian. They can look good. But a button, whether it be one or three, is pretty minor compared to fabric, shoulders and over-all fit. You talking to me; I say go for it.

One button is maybe less common, but still a traditional option (as somebody mentioned Huntsman is doing 1-button as the house style and huntsman is certainly not a fashion-trend-house). I have a navy 1-button Phineas Cole Blazer which I love and often get complimented on. I don't wear it in business settings, but that is due to it being a blazer and not because of the 1-button design.

If you like the jacket go for it!

Imperishable Los Angeles tailoring icon and impresario Jack Taylor is a big promoter of one-button suits and (I presume) jackets.

They're a little offbeat but certainly sartorially acceptable...at least in my opinion.

1 button in any case is much more suitable as part of evening formal attire, it would look silly with jeans. I do not like 1 button blazers, but each to their own.

This. A 1 button jacket echoes the formality dinner jacket, which is traditionally 1 button if single-breasted. As such, it is highly incongruent to wear with jeans.

For a navy blazer I like a 1-button front just as much as a 2-button or 3-button front. For all other sports coats I prefer 3 buttons.
