Our resident Versace expert @SpooPoker can likely date this more accurately, but it's authentic. Versace has been made by Zegna for a while, and that fabric tag is from Zegna. However, that thing is quite dated; I think Zegna used that tag between late 90s to very early 2000s before they switched to a new format. You're looking at a suit that's at least 15 years old.

Once again - Spoo's the man on this, Gianni Versace himself could rise from the grave to contradict him and I'd still side with Spoo - but I believe the Zegna swap was done in 2004 or so. Zegna made the original Versace Collection (which has since moved on but the new manufacturer escapes me) as well as Gianni Versace Couture (which I believe it still does to this day.

The Versace line (like the suit you have there) was above the Versace Collection/Versace Classic line, but still below Couture. It's a good suit as far as Versace goes.

Hi folks.

Been reading through the Thrift thread (amongst others), and enjoying some people's finds.

I came across this "Burberry Brit" sweater in a consignment shop for nothing. Picked it up. I know Brit is their lower end stuff but.... Does this look legit?  100% Lamb Wool. Made in China...but it seems everyone's low end is from China.

Enjoying the forum.

real

Didn't realize this thread existed or I wouldn't have posted in the eBay thread. Looks/feels legit to me based on quality and construction, but I'd like a 2nd opinion.

The reason I ask is this

It's real - it was probably a factory 2nd that someone fished out of QA reject and then sold for a discount. It wasn't sold through a proper outlet otherwise they would have struck the label and I can't imagine GA would allow such a defect on a black label item be sold. I would hypothesize an employee recognized it was a minor error they could sell on the grey market for a decent sum

Any thoughts on the authenticity of this Sartoria Castangia suit? I never owned one before, so it is hard for me to tell. Thanks in advance

I think it is important to be able to recognize construction features of high-quality tailored garments that distinguish them from mass-produced garments, and not just rely on labels. It is pretty easy IMO for tailored jackets. These features are too difficult/expensive to produce to be faked in a cost-effective manner.

Just a couple of things that I can see in your photos:

1. the lapel buttonhole appears to be a hand sewn buttonhole

2. the stitching around the edges of the inside pocket flap appears to be hand stitched (note the slight irregularity). This also seems to be true of the lapel pick stitching.

If the suit is in your possession, check to see if it is fully canvassed by the pinch test. It is very easy to do and quite reliable. Working sleeve buttons can be seen on "inexpensive" garments nowadays, and expensive jackets produced with unfinished basted sleeves can be finished at one's local tailor with nonworking sleeve buttons, so I don't rely on that too heavily myself.

Thank you for the enlightening post. Unfortunately I still don't have the suit in my possession so I can't check if it is fully canvassed, but I will do so as soon as I have it.

It appeared authentic to me too, but I am not nearly as experienced in noticing those things at once.
