This is as good a place as any to offer you my thanks. Your eagle eyes in the "what you wearing" thread identified that my tie knots would often slip down and thanks to that observation I now make an extra effort to ensure the tie will not slip down (much...)
What I found is that it's not so much the knot method, but how tightly you cinch it that determines whether it stays put. I basically tie a modified half-windsor and on "first cinch" it looks right but will
slip down a bit during the day as it loosens. I now make an effort to get the knot tighter. So while holding the knot, I'll first pull down the thin end, then adjust the thick end and basically keep going, all the while tightening the knot itself, while keeping the basic shape the same. The tighter the knot, the less likely it will be to slip down.
I have not found the ties take longer to recover after wearing, but then again, I have a large enough tie collection that I do not wear the same one at all frequently.
