Curious how the stripes on the shirt vs. the stripes on a suit make the difference here - same exact tie btw.

I think we're all dying of curiosity, gdl. Any chance of a pic?

No, that shirt is awesome. I'll just get it tailored I guess.

Yeah, do that. I got some NOS whnay.-unfriendly "lobster tweed" plaid wool shirts that Bergdorfs used to carry at insane prices back in the 70s. Shoulders and sleeves fit great, but the bodies were a bit blousey.

I was going to ditch them, but got them taken in and they are great.

Monday in Sydney again, Shantung silk tie and Simonnot-Godard cotton hank on a sunny day.

Shirt sleeves will be shortened tomorrow; the fabric, a Sic Tess 120 Royal Oxford, is a little lighter and softer than Charles Nakhle and I thought it'd be. A little more tie space on this commission though, which is the way I like it...

Great look, love the shoulders CEP.

Shirt cuffs need narrowing too-

They're definitely nice. But--there is no way that they constitute CBD.

Eagerly awaiting my A Suitable Wardrobe purchases. Coupla ties, and a bunch of Simonnot-Godard linen squares. Let's hope I like these ties, I am attempting to branch out.

It's because the tie rests on and--as Manton nicely put it--"grows out of" the shirt. So, to avoid looking busy, the pattern scales of tie and shirt need to contrast more than the patterns of tie and coat. Especially when it's stripes and stripes. For CBD, the tie stripe is too similar in width to the shirt stripes. Check out Manton's thread on Combining Patterns at AAAC.

All items very nice, by the way. I like the knot.

The Drakes bouclè with the little nubs is amazing, and goes great with a navy suit, when you don't feel like wearing silver or grey.
