I would put mine up today, but I have a POW DB on and a knit tie. It may be conservative business dress in Naples (or here in NOLA), but I doubt it will make the cut in NYC.

They are a little on the large side given current fashion, but Will assures me they are within the boundaries of convention. Are they out of proportion relative to the width of my head? That's the big question. They seem OK to me, but I lack the magic eye.

The tie isn't as shiny in real life as it appears in this pic. Still, it is a ribbed silk tie (steel grey), so it does have some sheen.

I'm if the opposite view on this, as I really dig shirts with white ground. I'm wearing one today, though it might get the Manton seal of approval for its huge honkin' navy and blue stripes.

I'd go so far as to say that white shirts, and shirts with white ground, are an absolute conservative business dress staple.

White, yes. White ground dominated stripes/checks ... well, they are conservative business dress. But someone else in this thread said they had a JosABank look, which strikes me as on point, if not nice.

I wonder if opinions on this are determined partly by complexion. I am dark and look good in high contast. Maybe white's too severe for others? To me it looks clean, sharp and professional.

My love for the austere simplicity of the '60s means I'll always have a place in my heart for the white shirt and black knit tie.

So, I am a little lost here. A white base color shirt with blue stripes is Jos. A. Bank in appearance?

What is the alternative if you want a blue and white striped shirt? Or is this to be avoided entirely?

I ask this, because the blue and white striped shirt is my go to shirt. I have more of them than anything, and the stripes range from fine pins to butcher. Also, most of my gingham is blue and white as well. Blue is my favorite color.

I am olive skinned with black hair.

I told Will to give me his house style - which he says is the Henry Poole house style - and that's what he did. So is it that you don't like Poole-style structured shoulders, or are you suspicious about the manner in which those shoulders have been executed?
