I'm sure you've all heard of the massive 8.9 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.. and I also know many people on this forum reside in Japan..

How are you all doing? Are you guys safe?

This shit is serious.

It's pretty horrible, thankfully the handful of friends I have in Japan appear to be OK. Just sent a message to my friend and shopping service, hope he is OK.

Thank you for your thoughts. I didn't even feel the earthquake here in Osaka, but last I saw NHK reported that the death toll in Sendai alone had jumped to around 300 people. I would not be surprised at all if this number has risen considerably by morning. Public transport in the eastern part of Japan is a mess (including Tokyo), and tons of people were forced to walk home or camp out overnight in freezing weather. Once again, please keep those in the Tohoku region in your thoughts.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and remember all the destruction and chaos from the Loma Prieta quake in 1989 and that was a 6.9. I can't imagine how things are in Japan right now having a much larger quake. I wish everyone over there the best.
