Ice Hockey - Page 37

I don't know if Hossa will stay or not, I have no idea how he likes the city or if he's more or less likely to stay if he gets what he was after (a cup). The reasons the wings can field the teams they do are twofold: first, they draft spectacularly well (both datsyuk and zetterberg were late picks, and right now they have Helm, Abdelkader, Ericsson and Kronwall playing big minutes) and second, they spend very little on Osgood. Most elite teams have a fair bit of cash locked up in their goalie. Even Anaheim did... it just wasn't the goalie who played for them in the playoffs.

It will be an interesting offseason for the wings. I think Stuart's contract is up and with the emergence of Ericsson this postseason, he may not return. Also, I have loved matlby and draper over the years, but their time is coming to an end. There's some cap space there but not a ton. Chelios needs to retire. We have too many young guys that can produce results. The scouting team should be the highest paid people in the organization (sidenote: there was an article a couple years ago that talked about the wings European scout. It was fantastic. I will try and search for it. It basically laid out how he found datsyuk, zetterberg, etc. And convinced the wings to take them when others in the organization didn't want them.)

The two that MAY be on the shortend of the stick will be Hudler and Filpula, if Hossa signs a deal. If not, then we can look at locking those guys in.

We did get lucky in only sinking 2-3 million for both goalies. Conklin is a starter for most teams. Osgood has always been a better than average goalie.

They'll die. Whether it's at Carolina's hands or Detroit's, they will die. Oh what's that you say? You've come to face us once again, except we took one of your best players from last year in Hossa, and you lost Ryan Malone and Ryan Whitney in exchange only for Chris Kunitz? And Gonchar is hurt? I don't see it happening.

The pens have really spanked the canes these last 2 games. Thought it would be closer.

Malkin and Crosby are on fire. As much as I hate them both , I have to respect their talent. With that, someone needs to cheap shot both of them out of the playoffs

I am pretty sure Stuart signed a four year contract last summer.

Chelios will leave, but I could see him playing for another team as the "veteran coach".

I think we signed Flipula to a deal last summer or this past year that locks him up till 2013, so I do not think he will go. I think if they want to keep Hossa then I wouldn't be surprised if Hudler and Sammuelsson, who will be a free agent, are gone.

This might be the article on the scouting:

I dunno, that game kept making me cringe for them. They didn't play so hot imo. And mind you I'm a fan of that team, I saw a lot of their very first games and practices in Greensboro a long while back.

Red Wings are going to win. Again.

/wings fan since '93

^ You took the Flyers chance of a cup in 4 games in '97, bastard. The Red Wings are a machine. They are without Lidstrom and Datsyuk and they still win 6-1... insane.

Quenneville fined for postgame remarks. This was a little overboard on the fine.
