Both have there place at the top of the MC wardrobe, for sure. Gray may work better for some guys. I've just been on a navy kick for the past year or so. I love gray suits, especially mid- to light-gray. But, since navy actually has color, it's more forceful and provides more contrast and energy to shirts, complexions, etc. As been mentioned, it's also got lots of "flavors". Lots of shades of navy ranging from purpley-blue to greenish-blue.

Charcoal is another animal to me. It's what you choose when you want to look anonymous. And maybe why Manton name checked it as the ne plus ultra of conservative business dress.

^I really like that 'swell' you got going in the upper chest... are you just built that way (bulky upper pecs and traps) or is that tailored-in with padding and such? Below is my HK suit in Huddersfield's "dark navy", I tried asking the tailor for that same sort of swell but I don't think I have the build for it:

Agreed. I have a navy suit that is almost black and would prefer one in a 'marine Navy'which I believe is a few shades lighter.

Gray can be great, especially the lighter colours for the summer, along with lightweight glen plaids - hope to get married in a silver gray sharkskin/mohair, I think there is an eight ounce Holland and Sherry that would work.

Not a fan of charcoal and I hate that colour that Barack Obama and many other politicians wear that is so bland in its quest to be inoffensive that you can't even tell if it's navy or charcoal. Show some personality you bloody drones!!

PhD level pattern combinations give this conservative navy quite a distinctive look with it's all-over shades of blue.

You took out the shoulder padding? What do you mean about resleeved?

Took out the shoulder padding and when the sleeve was reattached, had my tailor do a natural sleeve instead of the original roped sleeve.

That seems too much trouble to go through, I wonder what an alteration like that costs? $200-300 per suit?

I think a lot of people are conflating blue with navy. Navy is a very particular type of dark blue. I love shades of dark blue, but just a bit lighter than navy.

FWIW, the sleeves have to come off anyways for the padding to come out so it was just a matter of how I wanted them reattached. Not as pricey as that but definitely adds up across jackets.

It's one of the reasons that eventually drove me to bespoke - the ability to get the details that I want.

I would very much like to see this as well if anybody was up to the task. I have a hard time choosing between navy and grey, any nice collections might certainly push me in one direction or the other.
