Best Ties - Page 2

Basing this purely on personal preference/taste, not commenting on construction quality:

Hermes (nice width)
Ferragamo (best silk)
Brooks Brothers (interview tie)

I think, within the Style Forum confines, they're underrated.

The ties I like:

1. Rubinacci (best silks, patterns too conservative for me)
2. Attolini (good silks, more youthful patterns which I like, light construction)
3. Marinella (very nice prints, nice construction)

The ones I own but don`t care for:

Kiton (not enough width, bulky feel, nothing special with prints/patterns)
Borrelli (overall OK but nothing special, very youthful patterns but too loud)
Drakes (Feels similar to Borrelli. I guess it`s the standard but nothing special)

I'm sure there are a lot of better ties but I like what I can find on the cheap Brooks, Ben Silver (I actually inherited these), and Talbott

Carnaval De Venise

I'm sure they aren't as 'good' as some of the others mentioned, but the fact that a) i'm a student and b) i can get them at cost from work, makes them a decent option.

The best tie I own is a Carlo Franco.

As to the rest, I don't think it's possible to rank ties in order of general best quality.

Hermes silk is nice; the patterns put me off in large part, screaming I-banker or lawyer who thinks he's well-dressed. The construction doesn't seem to stand out to me; they are good ties with a thin construction and heavily socially freighted design. Perhaps they are better than other ties with thin construction.

I love my Charvet ties, although they are jewel-like in delicate-ness as well as in their colors and brightness. Is that a best?

This thread appears to have devolved into _favorite_ ties, which is something else.

I have been on a Holliday & Brown kick for the past year or so. It took me awhile to put aside political differences, but I really enjoy all my Carlo Francos. Also, Barba ties are very nice....

I am currently on a David Chu kick and I have taken a real shine to the Brioni cashmere ties this season.

"Best" is a relatively subjective accolade I'm uncomfortable bestowing on any single piece of neckwear. That being said, your pink cast-off did inspire me to pick up a few 'nice' Barbas from Ian D.

I got a couple of cashmeres at the Asprey sale that I'm looking forward to wearing this winter....

my Carlo Francos are the best I own, the Nickys are great. Have a couple of really nice Brionis that rate right up there.

Favorites: Charvet and Turnbull at one end of the spectrum, Fabio Ferretti and Alby at the other. (Thanks, Marshalls)
