Yeah, I just never had a mandarine/clementine/tangerine/whatever that was this sour. Moreover, it had signs of decent ripeness (full flavor, like the other ripe ones).
But I hear you, it's extremely difficult to find decent clementines around here. This year, I once again tried many different ones. The best ones available have very thin, leathery, easy to peel skin. I tried the ones with thicker skin, and some that didn't look very nice, or had green hues, since I thought they deserved a try too and maybe their less attractive appearance made was evened out by great taste. They all sucked. I miss the tangerines I picked perfectly ripe from trees in Spain.

Quinces grow a lot in Germany. Most people have forgotten how to use them though. All they know is quince jelly. However, it's great to bake and cook with. Very unique fragrance and taste.
Right now, they come from Turkey -- the ones I used smelled quite intense.
