considering all the rain we've had the last two winters ... should be good for morels and chanterelles this spring. did you buy those from david west?

i usually go to david but all he's had for months are black trumpets, hedgehogs, those little chanterelles, and oregon truffles. i really wanted morels so i went to la funghi, even though i don't really trust them.

I should have taken a picture but I wasn't thinking. I freshly ground some pork loins to make mabu tofu. There is absolutely nothing better than freshly ground meat. Makes me want to try that Thomas Keller, three meat hamburger.

These are photos (not mine) of an excellent store in Los Angeles called Spice Station. I buy all of my spices here, usually whole.

is that place expensive? Spices are ludicrous in America if you buy them at the supermarket. I buy my spices at the Indian store, they're huge baking soda box-sized boxes for $1.50.

They usually sell by the ounce, so if I need a pound of something I'll probably go to an Indian or Armenian market. If I need a little bit of something specific the place is a god send. I suppose I shouldn't have said "all," but aside from things like Salt and Pepper I will usually go here and just buy what I need. I never end up spending much. Definitely cheaper than the bottle stuff you'd find at a supermarket, and usually much fresher.

I love going to specialty stores, as opposed to buying everything in one place; a very French style of shopping.
