Alright, I really like this briefcase but can't justify spending $2,225.00 on it:

Can anyone provide any similar alternatives? I'm not really keen on the Filson or Korchmar bags. Also, I already have a Custom Hide Scholar, which I'm sort of "meh" about. Ideally, I'd be able to fit a legal file (or 2), my lunch and maybe a zippered compartment so small personal items don't fall out... I appreciate any insight you might be able to provide.

Thanks!

Thanks, that one's a bit too rustic though... The problem I had with the Customhide, is that I found the leather to be plasticy and the leather flaked on abrasion rather than taking the scracth like I feel it should have...

Anyone else have any ideas? I took a look at the Saddelback bags and find them too rustic as well. But also find bags like Pratesi too modern... I know, I'm difficult.

Fine case. Mine is similar, except london tan, round lock, and full rear pocket. Why did you rule out Filson? It's probably the closest you will get to that style. Alternatively, use something cheap until you've saved up enough for the SAB.

It seems like the Filson may be too thin. Can anyone confirm whether you could fit a small bottle of water (e.g. Poland Spring) and an apple in the case?

From the pics I've seen, I doubt that would be a problem. Look through some of the ones here.

Those bags are made of very heavy leather and are VERY heavy. If that isn't what you had in mind you might think about other styles.

Not really worried about heavy, just want to be able to fit at least a legal file, bottle of water, yogurt or apple, and maybe an organizer insert for loose items that may be prone to falling out like keys, cell phone, leatherman, change, ipod, etc...

All of that would easily fit in two gussets of mine (about the size of a Filson), depending on the size of the apple...which might also give it an odd bulge, but that would probably be true of any case of this style.

I also don't find the bag to be heavy, though perhaps I just don't know what "light" is.
