Cupcakes stink. They are food items designed for friendless jerks, or very picky eaters. Just get a whole cake and share it with your friends, stop trying to pretend you're someone special and somehow deserving of a specially designed cake just for you. No one cares and you're not that important.

to be organic, a cupcake needs to be made from organic flour, organic butter (butter made from milk from cows that have only fed on organic feed), etc. I have no doubt that the La Jolla farmers market cupcakes are the bomb ... i just really doubt that they are organic (at least according to the legal definition), and if they are, that their organic-ness is the source of their greatness.

I think I've had more good cupcakes, than bad ones. Most were just baked by friends though. Didn't know they were such a sore topic!

fried pies? I see a gourmet fried pie shop open in my town, and I will have to kill people. I just lost better than 100 pounds but there is no way I can resist high end fried pies.

simple baked pies I can resist.

Sorry Globe, but pie on a stick is already in Chicago. It was written up in Tasting Table a while back. Pisses me off too, but that's b/c I think it's disgusting.

We get a set of cupcakes at work each month to celebrate colleagues' birthdays. Sometimes from Kara's, and a few other places. I'm always, "meh". They almost always have waaaaaay too much frosting; that much sugar just makes me sick. More recently there are some "minis" as well, like bite-sized cupcakes. Those are better for me since they have less frosting.

+1. Sorry GT, but fried pie is gross. De gustibus non disputandum est.

Not good pie. A properly made strawberry rhubarb pie, crust from scratch, with shortening, or even better, lard, is a thing to literally die for.

Literally, because too many will give you a heart attack, or at least a clot, on short order. But they're worth it.

I was never really a fan of the fried things though.

But tell me you would say no to this:

Not the way I top 'em personally, but it looks damn tasty and shows the filling.

Just push the frosting off and eat the cake.
