I agree with you, G. But "hobbyist" perhaps isnt the best word I was trying to convey what I meant with there. "Enthusiast" is really more what I meant. As far as why half the people are here? Well, its always considered a bar atmosphere, right? Have you ever gone to the bar to just hang out and shoot the shit instead of go, sit, drink, and leave? Thats totally OK by me. If you found your way here, you had some general interest in fashion. However, I 1000% agree about the threadshitters and rabble rousers.

Learnt a heckuva lot from MC back when I first discovered it, and started posting / trawling through old threads (2007 - 2009).

Personal taste has evolved from mindless brand-fixation (Zegna, Borrelli, Hermes, Bally etc.) to VFM purchases based on a more educated aesthetic (Herringbone, Drakes, Cappelli, The Armoury, C&Js, Carminas etc) since meeting good folk like Ethan Newton (EthanDesu) and Graeme Wong (Phat Guido).

These days, I know what I want, and why I like it. Love the rules, but love to break 'em as well.

Still hang around for the odd interesting thread (e.g. pocket square review), the snark (GREEN COWS! GREEN COWS! GREEN COWS!), and maybe to lend a hand to the youngins where possible (Hermes Kid... where are ya?).

Spoo's a legend, Niidawg's cool, and it's all copacetic.

Chill.

SF got me into bespoke and raised the bar of good clothing. While one may or may not have the style and carriage of the rock-star posters, it's certainly something to aspire towards. And there certainly was enough there. Quite honestly, outside of a handful, such as Spoo, medtech_expat, Foo etc -- or more recently coolpapaboze -- there aren't a whole lot of posters whose style I admire and attempt to emulate. So in the absence of that, I come here for the camaraderie and the snark.
