New York City Stores

I'm headed to NYC for a long weekend and want to hit some good stores, only there are so many of them.

Can y'all recommend some go-to stores, mostly for denim and mildly dressy- type clothing. No need for MTM suits on this trip.

these are some stores I liked in NYC:

Famous Friends (near Tompkins Park)
Atrium and Nom De Guerre (worth a look, both right by each other walking distance to SoHo)
Soho has 45rpm, APC, Paul Smith, BLUE IN GREEN
Barneys on Madison

then there's loads of usual suspects in midtown like Levis, Diesel, Boss etc

I would think Steven Alan, Oak, and Famous Friends would be good places, potentially Scoop as well. I'm sure the NY members will have far more detailed recs, but certainly those stores have gotten a lot of press here

Also make sure you spend a day touring Soho. . .bunch of boutiques and just about every major designer has a shop there.

You should visit the future. Their maps were pretty helpful to me last year in NYC--dunno how up to date they are, though.

I particularly enjoy Uniqlo, the Jack Spade store, and APC in soho, the Barney's in midtown, and Steven Alan (only been to the upper west location, which is small, but quiet and great). I am less than enthused by Bergdorf, 45RPM (it's a cool-looking store, the jeans are just beyond me), and the "usual suspects" type stores, except maybe Adidas.

I'd like to plan a spring trip and head to all those places, first stop the margiela store and then those other ones mentioned. I want to check out atelier as well to see all the crazyness.

I made our hotel reservations for early march and the rates were hella cheap for an otherwise $$$ midtown hotel. That time it'll still be cold but no snow, there might be some severe sales on the leftover winter stuff and the first spring items will be in stores (my fiancee is already creaming over the prospect of spring 07 Lulu Guinness). should be good times!

Whatever you do, please make sure to stop by at least one of the two Odin stores. By far the best selection of streetwear clothing in NY IMO

You should also spend a little time in Nolita and visit at least Steven Alan and the two 16sur20 stores there

Start at barneys, then walk down 5th avenue to 42nd street. Take the 6 train down to astor place and hit up the east village, LES, soho, etc. Tribeca is ghetto; there is nothing for you there.

Vintage is not as good as it was.

Cherry on 8th Ave in the West Village is very good, though.
