What do you think of this choice of pocket square, tie and shirt? Why?

I really like everything in this outfit individually but the color of the pocket square is throwing things off for me. The color just isn't right. I see it clashing with the brights in the tie. The two have very different color values. I would keep it as an ideal spring and summer square and wear a white linen PS with the rest of this exact outfit. [/IMG][/quote]

^^^ This was a look that was very popular and considered very fashionable in the 80's (having the pocket square match a color in the tie and the shirt with the white collar and blue body.) It doesn't look bad but it looks dated to me.

I love a strong black and white pattern and especially in this jacket. Home decor and fashion designers for years have found that a bold B&W room or outfit looks it's best when you only introduce one additional color( or maybe two at the very most). In this case you have medium blue, brown, tan, aqua. That's too many and the medium blue and aqua don't compliment each other.

Consider this with a solid blue shirt and solid black tie or black tie with a simple white or silver diamond pattern and a white pocket square. A white shirt could be nice too. I think you will find that this direction creates a simple elegant look. For something a bit more dramatic and fun, try a black tie, white shirt, purple pocket square (maybe with some white pattern in it?).

Ralph Lauren's design teams do a B&W story every few years in home and in fashion. Look these up. You will see them adding only one color for interest and accent and the results are very effective. The accent color they use is usually red or purple.
