Pocket squares, like hats, must be worn with nonchalance. “As if they were employed to wipe spilled champagne from a lady’s dress mere moments ago.”

I dropped in to Barneys on Sunday and got a chance to check out the Simonnot-Godard hanks. Exquisitely made from very fine cloth.

Guys, I have a Christmas party to attend. Thinking about my combo:

- Navy blazer with grey flannel trousers
- Burgundy grenadine tie
- Pale blue shirt
- Olive green paisley pocket square with some red in it

I know that the olive green PS will work with the tie but with a blue shirt do I have too many colors going on?

If the party is in the evening, I think you'd be better off with a white shirt and white linen hank. You'll look sharper.

It's hard to go wrong with a white shirt.  Simple.  Elegant.  Leaves you more options for ties and pockets squares.

The problem is my white shirt is french cuff. I have informal cuffs on them but I know many will be against a white french cuff shirt with a blazer. I have read that many are fine with it if the shirt is not a solid white. If solid white is fine, then I would love to wear that shirt. I do want to wear the olive green PS because I've never gotten a chance to wear it and I think a Christmas party would be a good time. It is an evening event though. Let me know though as I have until Thursday to decide.

Don't sweat it. White shirts are the best choice, and I would choose french cuffs 9 times out of ten if I could (but many of my shirts are button down, thus no FC)

Thanks! Looks like white shirt, burgundy tie and olive green PS.

No olive green ps with what you describe. White much better.

Count me in as one of the people that is OK with french cuffs and a blazer.  If it looks good, go for it.  Post a photo if you're comfortable doing so.  And have fun!

Thanks will definitely post a shot. Unbel may I know why it wouldn't work? Green is a complementary color to red so thought it would work. I know white is safe but I've already rocked that look before so wanted to try something more creative.
