I'm not a fan of photo realistic copies of artwork on ties or pocket squares. They are too much of a novelty. The actual colors of this art limits it's use. It is out of sync with current color trends.

However, if you adapt it by cropping it into a square, adding a border and recoloring it in your own, on trend, colorways, it could be quite elegant. It needs your own creative presentation to pull it off and to make it special.

Try it Kent. It could be a nice pocket square.

Would it be tacky or awesome if I made a pocket square with Hokusai's The Great Wave off Kanagawa?

Okay...another question.  What pattern would go best with a plaid tie?  I couldn't find many examples.  Also, if I'm wearing a dark grey suit with a white shirt and this tie, what pocket square would go best?  I want to look sharp for my bride and I'm tired of always wearing white pocket squares, so any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  The silk tie, if you can tell, has orange and rust colored stripes along with the white and dark grey stripes on grey background.  Thanks in advance for any ideas!  - Jay

If it is your wedding, wear white linen pocket square. It will look sharp and classic and photograph well. Better to look classic in wedding pics than fashionable for a year or two.

I suppose you're right.  Thanks for the tip!  One more question...what a bout a white, color tipped linen square?  And if so, should the color match a color somewhere on my suit?  Or am I pushing it with a tipped PS?  - Jay

Also, given that this will be a Fall wedding, is a linen PS and silk tie "acceptable?"  - Jay

Linen with a colored edge is casual. Go all white linen for your wedding. It will be more elegant and yes, it will work perfectly with your silk tie and it is fine year round.

Can't make up my damn mind... tounge.gif

Can only afford one. Leaning towards the Real Teatro San Carlo  (#2 or #3), colours seem more adequate for fall...

That's what I ended up ordering. #1 wants to end up in my closet too, but I'll wait...

^ I got Mediterraneo (#1) a while ago in a different color (navy and while edging). I think the edge colors allow for some interesting patterns to emerge from the pocket. Not sure they'd be acceptable in the Good Taste thread, but I still like them.
