Sonlegoman is the optometry student.
Almost all the pocket squares discussed on Style Forum are hand-sewn. I make hand-sewn pocket squares, but so do Drake's, Howard Yount, and practically every vendor on this forum, and mentioned in this thread.

I'm far from an expert on these things but that never stopped me before!
You could get the contrast colored fabric you would like and cut it in stripes and sew it over the edges.
