Soul Mates: Do You Believe in Them? - Page 3

What we call "falling in love" is what we'd call "the mating instinct" in other animals. (This is not the same as mere lust for coitus.)

You fall in love when you need to mate. The personalities of the women are irrelevant. She is a mere love object. You can fall in love several times in your life if your own body chemistry dictates.

Sorry, ladies. You are not our "soul mates." You are mere love objects, the same way you are mere sex objects to men who didn't fall in love with you.

Sorry, gents. To the women who fall in love with you, you're a mere Ken doll.

I believe happy couples are so because they work at keeping it that way, not because they're a perfect match. For what it's worth, my girlfriend doesn't have a lot in common with me, but it's handy to have that vastly different perspective. If left to my own devices, my apt would be a pigsty and I'd bill chill as fuck as I let problems stack up on me.

I believe in them, but not the "one and only" part. I am with mine, but think I could find another if need be.

Yes, there is a single perfect person, or soul mate, out there--she exists. Absolutely. The hard truth of it all; is that most people are woefully ignorent of how rare love--true love I'm talking--really is; and most people go their whole lives without ever finding it. People either settle or kid themselves that who they have is the best person for them. A soul mate exists for everyone, but the chances of finding that person is very low, one could live several lifetimes and still not find her.
